Our History
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a professional organization for chemical engineers.AIChE was established in 1908 to distinguish chemical engineers as a profession independent of chemists and mechanical engineers. Student chapters at various universities around the world have also been established throughout its history. The student chapters tend to focus on providing networking opportunities in both academia and in industry as well as increasing student involvement locally and nationally.
The institute opened membership in the Division to all, irrespective of membership in AIChE, and hundreds of scientists and engineers of all disciplines took advantage of the opportunity

International ChemE Jeopardy Competition
"The secret of success is to do the common thing uncommonly well." Team XYZ from AIChE NITR comprising of Swagat, Millen, Birupakhya & Swastik pulled off a fantastic win after a fascinating and brainstorming session and emerged as the International ChemE Jeopardy Champion. Hearty Congratulations to the team and best of luck for their future endeavors.

Outstanding Student Chapter Award
This Award is presented annually to those Student Chapters that show an exceptional level of participation, enthusiasm, program quality, professionalism, and involvement in the university and community through variety of activities, including career guidance, community outreach, departmental activities, social events, plant trips, sporting events and participation in local, regional and global AIChE programs. AIChE NITR Student Chapter was the recipient of this award in 2020 which was one of the proudest achievements of our chapter by far.

Donald F. And Mildred Topp Othmer Scholarship Award
Each year, Donald F. & Mildred Topp Othmer Scholarship Awards 15 AIChE student members a scholarship of $1,000. Awards are presented on the basis of academic achievement and involvement in student chapter activities. Our former President Karan Saxena, whose academic qualifications were accepted by AIChE on a Global scale was also the Recipient of this scholarship award.

AIChE NITR Student chapter won this award in consecutive years through our current president, Abhisek Agarwal.

Donald F. And Mildred Topp Othmer Scholarship Award
The Sophomore Academic Excellence Award is presented to one active AIChE undergraduate student member in each student chapter who has attained the highest scholastic grade-point average during his/her freshman and sophomore years, on recommendation of the Student Chapter Advisor. We are very proud about the fact that not one but two of our chapter’s members bagged the Excellence award in 2020 – our President, Abhisek Agarwal and our General Relations & Content Head, Kaustav Ray.

AIChE International Student Chapter Leadership Development Travel Grant Award
It is said that true leaders always lead by example. AIChE NITR had found such a lender in our beloved former President -Mr. Karan Saxena, an astute reflection of determination, sincerity and hard work. He was awarded the international student chapter travel grant award for his leadership of the club. This goes to show the indomitable character of the man. An affirmation of the fact that hard work does take you places.
